Part of the official CSK Book Award criteria states:

"Particular attention will be paid to titles which seek to motivate readers to develop their own attitudes and behaviors as well as comprehend their personal duty and responsibility as citizens in a pluralistic society."

Williams-Garcia has written a novel which compares/contrasts painfully well with Golding's _Lord of the Flies> and Knowles' _A Separate Peace_. She creates three distinctly individual and completely self-absorbed teenage girls. This book leads eloquently to a discussion of the importance of personal duty and responsibility.

This is a compelling novel that addresses an important topic--bullying by girls--in a literary style.

The voices of the 3 main characters are very distinct and the writing is excellent.

I believe this book will be a strong contender for CSK.
